Shockingly Fast

by TM

When I was younger, I was on a family trip in northern Michigan. Were were driving down the freeway when a deer suddenly jumped in front of our car. The deer had jumped out from behind some roadside brush, about 30 feet ahead of us.

Even at that distance, there was almost no time to start braking. The car was totalled on impact. It was shockingly fast and there was no time to react.

Scary to Think About
by: Grace

Thankfully, I've never driven or been in a vehicle that hit a deer. However, I have seen deer jumping across the road maybe 20 feet ahead of me before, but always far enough away or at slow-enough driving speeds that the possibility of collision was not an issue.

Thing can happen fast

It's a good reason to drive slowly on roads where wildlife might be present. Things happen so much more quickly at speed. Sounds like you didn't have much of a chance anyhow.
