#2: Don’t Drive If You Are Tired Or Drowsy
This would seem like common sense, but many people get behind the wheel of a car even knowing they shouldn’t be driving. If you are too tired to drive safely, ask someone else to drive or put your trip off until you are in better shape.
#3: Don’t Drive Under The Influence Of Alcohol Or Drugs
Remember, even a harmless-seeming cold or allergy pill may make you groggy. If you’re starting a new medication, don’t drive until you know how it will affect you.
#4: Keep Alert While Driving
Many people keep themselves at the top of their game by listening to the radio or CD player or by keeping the air conditioner on high or the windows rolled down. Others down loads of coffee or colas, containing caffeine, others nibble on chips or other snacks to stay alert.
#5: Take Breaks On Long Trips
Stop every few hours to get out of the car, stretch your legs, and give yourself a chance to wake up. Of course drinking a lot of fluids will also ensure the necessity of stopping frequently.
There is no lack of horror stories about fatigue causing car accidents. Don’t fall victim to these senseless tragedies.
