Summary
On certain trucks, the rear drive axle housing was manufactured with steel below the specified thickness and, as a result, it could develop a crack. If a crack develops and is not detected and repaired, the outboard end of the housing could eventually separate, allowing the hub, axle shaft, or wheel and brake assembly to separate from the vehicle increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy:
Dealers will inspect and replace the axle free of charge. The recall began on April 12, 2007. Owners may contact Chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438 or GMC at 1-866-996-9463.
