Auto Emergency Kits

Auto emergency kits should be carried in every vehicle. Whether you only drive around town or actually do a lot of highway and remote location driving, you never know when your life or the life of a loved one could be saved because you prepared by putting one or two car emergency kits in your car.

Because one never knows when an emergency can occur, we should all have a car emergency kit in our vehicles. For convenience, there are a variety of kits designed specifically for roadside emergency, that are available from a number of companies specializing in emergency survival kits.

A kit specifically designed to be carried in a car will usually carry:

  • Water
  • Light
  • A survival blanket
  • Whistle
  • Emergency flares
  • Jumper cables
  • Handiwipes.

Auto emergency kits can also be personalized with item that you might consider necessary, including, but not limited to:

  • Emergency food rations
  • Waterless Hand Cleaner
  • Hand-crank radio & cellphone charger
  • First Aid Kit
  • Gloves
  • Duct tape
  • Multi-tool
  • Poncho
  • Toiletpaper
  • spare eyeglasses
  • prescription medicine

One can also purchase a regular disaster survival kit that contains the necessary food, water and shelter to survive any type of disaster for 72 hours. Some have enough supplies for two people, which obviously means that for one person a kit like this would be good for up to 6 days.

Whichever kit you decide to go with, make sure it has those items you consider necessary by including those items in the bag before storing it in your vehicle. Don't forget to seasonally check the bag and add fresh water, and replace those things that may need replacing.
